Welcome stranger, my name is Thomas Baedorff, better known as Han or HannibalTC amongst my friends for what is an eternity now (circa 1996). Born in 1981 in Aachen, Germany, I grew up near Düsseldorf, started working for THQ with 16 and afterwards for Electronic Arts in Cologne with 22, being sent around the world, e.g. to Vancouver for 9 months total. In 2007 I joined centralization to Madrid and work as Localization QA Team Lead supervising approx. 60 testers in- and 25 off-peak for German, Polish, Czech and Hungarian.
The urge of snapping away started with a cheap film camera as a gift for my communion at the age of 8 and since then the love for taking pictures was ever present, but I eventually grew up as a hardcore gamer/geek thanks to my fathers job in video games. Photography fell short for quite some time – until digital came along. Due to my budget restraints back then I owned a Nikon Coolpix 2500 from 2002 on and a Sony DSC-W1 from 2004 on. When it started to break I decided to take it up a notch and go for a bridge camera with the Canon G10 in 2009.
Point of no return
I appreciated the upgrade, but at the same time quickly felt limited by the G10 and made the leap to buying a Canon 550D (Rebel T2i) when it hit the stores in Europe in March 2010. Starting with a 50mm f1.8 II the passion ignited in an instant and everything spun out of control, taking over most of my available time and money – and I am loving it! Justifying the expenses was easy: Everyone has a major hobby, and while others put 1.500€ rims on their car and so forth, I put 1.500€ lenses on my camera. Technically speaking this has at least some return value other than looking sexy, right? 🙂
This blog has been created in order to channel my thirst of knowledge and advance my photography in a creative way, be able to backtrack and make sure nothing gets lost in the flood of the facebook news feed where I used to post before and still do. Being forced to tie some loose ends together and dig out some information that played hard to get I hope this will also help some of you to make your lifes that little bit easier, decissions more educated and maybe teach you a nifty trick or two.
Style wise it is a mix of various things: I don’t want to get über technical, but on the other hand like to have important things explained. I don’t want the content to be tiring, but not too distracting either. It should be fun and rather easy to digest, so enjoy!
